Conventional Treatment For FMS
FMS or fibromyalgia is a chronic pain disease where the patient is subjected to pain in all over his/her body, and there are particular spots on the body which are more sensitive to the slightest of pressure. The FMS disorder is a strange condition whose causes and treatment have not been completely realized. The disease affects almost 3.7 million adult individuals in the United States and this estimate has been declared by The National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS), and the affected are mostly women who are in their menopause period or in their child bearing age. The disease also affects men but the number is not as high as it is in women. The age of the patient, the hereditary facto and any rheumatoid disease are the main risk factors for this disorder. The conventional treatment for this disease aims to alleviate the pain and it is not very helpful in curing the disease. The disease is a medical mystery but recent study has come up with definite findings.
Treatments and Cure: The conventional treatment for FMS focuses on the different symptoms of the disease. The prescribed drugs for the disease have different combinations of medicines which combat the pain in the muscles as well as it has drugs that help to restore the disturbed sleep pattern in the patient. The FMS patients can get help from the combination of exercise, medicine, physical therapy, and relaxation. The drugs that are used in the FMS disorder are antidepressants, anti-inflammatory, and analgesics. To alleviate pain the use of such drugs like aspirin, ibuprofen, and other pain relievers are generally prescribed. The antidepressant drugs help to control the depression in the patient and improves his/her sleep pattern which include low quantity of certain tricyclic antidepressants and the newer serotonin boosters are often used. The inclusion of gentle stretching exercises in the relaxation of muscles in this disease is the most important aspect of conventional treatment for FMS. The muscles in the patients of FMS are weak and get aggravated by little stress but the use of different exercises actually makes the patient feel relaxed and it has been observed that the sleeping habits of the FMS patients also improves. Some of those who do not benefit from the conventional treatment also use the alternative therapies to fight against the disease.
