The FMS disease is a chronic syndrome and the pain experienced all over the body and at some areas the pain may be greater than it is on other areas of the body, and these are called as the tender point areas in the body. The FMS disorder develops these tender point areas on the body. The pain in this disorder is in the muscles, joints, bones and the patient is also exhausted and experiences fatigue, that is why the disorder is also called as the Chronic fatigue syndrome.

The FMS disorder is mostly found in women than in men because there is a genetic predisposition in women that causes the disease in them. The ration is 9:1 for men and women in the FMS disease. Depression is considered as the effect of the disease but it may also be the cause of the fibromyalgia disorder. The FMS disorder is a mystery and it can not be cured so the best way to treat the disorder is to use a holistic method.

Disease:

The disease is found in two to three percent of the total population and it affects individuals who are from the age group twenty to fifty. Since the real cause of this disease is not known yet some doctors have attributed it to psychosomatic or psychogenic conditions.

The usual treatment for FMS is focused at the alleviation of the pain and the right setting of the sleep disorder in the patient. But it is also necessary to treat the patient from a psychological point of view so that the disease can be removed from its root itself. The disease is treated with antidepressants and anti-inflammatory drugs.

The anti-inflammatory non steroidal drugs help the patient to recover from pain in the body while the antidepressant drugs help to reduce the sleep disturbances that are associated with fibromyalgia, the anti depressant drugs like amitriptyline and trazodone are used in the treatment of depression in FMS. It has been observed by some physicians that the depression in the FMS patient further increases the symptoms of the disease. The anti depressant drugs help to treat the depression symptom in the FMS patient.
