The sleep theory also suggests that a traumatic event or severe illness affects the sleeping condition of the patient and this might lead to the beginning of pain of FMS in the patient and it also thus sets the disorder on to its course. Humans have normally different stages in their sleeping pattern and the 4th stage is very important because in this the nervous system sets the neurochemical process in body in their right direction.

The pain in the individuals is responsible for releasing the P substance in the spinal chord which makes the nerves to become tenderer to pain.
